About
I build, investigate and teach.

I’m Bruny Velázquez, an entrepreneur, strategist and educator based in Puerto Rico.
I founded Fáctica in 2016 and have spent the past decade working with organizations on questions involving business strategy, communication, research, audiences and organizational growth.
My path to business began in journalism. That training continues to shape how I work: investigate before concluding, distinguish evidence from assumption, ask better questions and make complex information understandable.
Today, my work moves across business, communication, research and education. I advise organizations, build and lead Fáctica, develop research and strategic initiatives, and teach communication, innovation and data journalism in both university and professional settings.
Across those roles, one question remains remarkably consistent:
How can we understand a situation well enough to make a better decision?
Background
From journalism to building businesses.
I began my career as a journalist, working for seven years across news and media. Journalism taught me how to investigate systems, work with incomplete information, identify what matters and communicate it clearly.
Over time, my work moved from explaining organizations to helping build them.
In 2016, I founded what became Fáctica, an independent strategy and communications firm. What began primarily in communications evolved into work involving research, organizational strategy, brand architecture, audience intelligence and multidisciplinary engagements.
Building a business also changed how I think about strategy.
Decisions look different when they affect revenue, margins, teams, clients, resources, risk and reputation. Operating a company has given me a practical understanding of the relationship between strategy and economic reality—and that perspective informs how I work with other organizations.
Alongside entrepreneurship, I have continued teaching. Academia gives me another environment in which to examine ideas, challenge assumptions and translate complex concepts into frameworks people can actually use.
Journalism, entrepreneurship and education may look like different careers. They are different ways of investigating problems and building responses to them. To me, they are different ways of doing the same thing:
understanding complexity and turning it into something useful.
